In 1925, West Hoboken & Union Hill, merged and "Union City" was incorporated.  Union City today is a popular destination because it serves as a more affordable and less congested alternative to Manhattan, yet it is less than 2 miles away.  Transportation to NY is fast and convenient by car, bus, Path trains and ferry.

Union City has state-established "Urban Enterprise Zones" and features a 3 1/2 % state sales tax.  At the present time, older apartment buildings, garden apartments, loft buildings and old factories are being converted into condos.  It is a vibrant hub for commerce, especially along Bergenline Avenue (known as the "Miracle Mile" for shopping) , where predominantly Latino shop owners have settled from Cuba, Chile, Edcuador, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, mixed in with long-time shopkeepers of all nationalitites.  The cuisine in Union City reflects the diversity of its inhabitants.

Union City real estate is booming  The first luxury hi-rise, The Thread, has just been completed.  Complete with doorman, parking, terraces and a roof-top garden, it has spectacular views of New York City.   Its' name is derived from the vast number of embroidery factories that once dominated Union City and surrounding towns.

The main office of De Ruggiero Realtors is located in Union City.  The sales associates have a thorough knowledge of the area and have access to all Union City apartment rentals, condos for sale, single family and multi-family homes for sale.
